The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) hosted a high-profile delegation from the German Parliamentary Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development at their Tema Office.
The GFZA delegation was led by CEO Amb. Michael Oquaye Jr. and Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration, Mrs. Kate Abbeo.
The German delegation visited to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen trade and investment relations. They aimed to evaluate the progress of projects funded by the German government through the GIZ’s “Decent Work for Just Transition Project.”
Amb. Michael Oquaye Jr. presented the successful implementation of several German-sponsored Free Zones projects, providing a detailed analysis of the export revenue generated by German Free Zones enterprises and the employment opportunities they created.
The presentation included a comprehensive review of key initiatives under the German-sponsored project, which aligned with the GFZA’s objectives. These initiatives included a shuttle service for affordable transportation, canteen service infrastructure, training programs for Enclave staff, and the construction of a water supply system with storage facilities and an integrated distribution network within the Tema Export Processing Zone.
Richmond Frimpong, Managing Director of LMI Land Holdings, also attended the event and expressed his gratitude to the German delegation for their impactful contributions to the enclave and the GFZA as a whole.
After engagements at the Ghana Free Zone Authority’s Tema office, the German parliamentary delegation also toured ‘Do the Right Thing’ apparel factory to engage with workers and management.
The DTRT Group, with it’s factory in the Tema enclave was established in 2013 by Ghanaian, American and German entrepreneurs with a shared vision to harness the opportunities in the global apparel industry to deliver social good and economic growth.
