Residents of Tebu, located in the Ga South Municipality, are expressing concern over the poor condition of their local road.
The uneven and dust-ridden road has led many residents to abandon their cars, opting instead for motorcycles, locally known as “okada”, as their primary mode of transportation.
However, the increasing incidents of motorcycle theft by unidentified individuals have discouraged okada riders from frequenting the area, leaving residents with limited transportation options.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that their Member of Parliament, Sophia Akuako, vacated the Obom Domiabra seat to run for the Ayawaso Central constituency. Despite technically still being the MP for the area, her loss in the election and decision not to run again in 2024 have left the residents feeling unrepresented in Parliament.
Residents believe this has hindered their community’s development this year, as they suspect the MP may be reluctant to invest resources in development projects since she will not be seeking re-election.
Tebu’s Assemblyman, Ahortor Ebenezer, has stated that the road’s condition has deteriorated beyond simple reshaping and requires a complete overhaul, including an asphalt overlay.
