The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Julie Essiam says the dedication and commitment of the staff of the authority contributed to meeting the mid-year target.
Joe Ghartey, the Board Chairman of GRA, disclosed on Tuesday that the authority not only met its mid-year target but also achieved its VAT digital enrollment goal of 600 businesses.
During a meeting with the leadership of the Methodist Church Ghana in Accra, Joe Ghartey elaborated on the GRA’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate of meeting the necessary revenue targets for the year, despite the limited time and challenging demands imposed by the IMF conditions.
He emphasised that the initial figures from January, February, and March were not promising. However, the need to meet the target was not just due to IMF’s instructions, but also because of Ghana’s need to raise its revenue, pay taxes, and demand accountability from the government.
The GRA Commissioner General highlighted that the GRA staff’s dedication led to the authority exceeding its target, particularly in June.
She noted that the GRA was assigned to collect GH¢145.99 billion this year, which represents a 29.1% growth over the GH¢113.06 billion collected in the 2023 fiscal year.
Ms Essiam indicated that by June this year, the GRA had collected a total of GH¢68.49 billion, surpassing the half-year budget of GH¢67.9 billion.
She further added that in June, the GRA staff exceeded the revenue target by an exceptional 21.2%, a significant increase for a single month.
She said this achievement was made despite the challenges faced in the first quarter, demonstrating the commitment, resilience, and overall dedication of the GRA staff.
