The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s (KNUST) Alumni Association has denounced the membership of Kofi Clement Ohene Asare, a graduate of the university who filed an interim injunction to halt the extension of Professor Akosua Dickson’s term as Vice-Chancellor.
On June 20, 2024, KNUST officially announced the reappointment of Prof. (Mrs.) Dickson as Vice-Chancellor for an additional term, following the University Council’s approval of the Committee’s proposal to extend her term by two years, effective August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026.
The University Registrar, Ansah Boateng, confirmed the renewal in an official announcement to the university community and the public.
However, in a notice dated July 16, Kofi Clement Ohene Asare, the plaintiff, claimed that the alleged renewal of the Vice-Chancellor’s term violated the university’s regulations.
In response, the KNUST Alumni Association issued a statement on July 17, stating that Kofi Clement Ohene Asare is not a recognised member of the Association.
“He does not belong to any of the Chapters of the Association. He is not a paid-up member of the Association. In view of the above, Clement Kofi Ohene Asare is NOT a recognised member of the Association.”
