The Judicial Council has approved the learned Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Sciences, Professor of Law and legal academic Prof. Richard Frimpong Oppong and his co-nominee, the learned Justice of the Court of Appeal, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah for the Supreme Court Bench.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, announced the approval during the inauguration of the Governing Board of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre on Monday, 16th July 2024.

According to the President, the duo is billed for an appearance before Parliament for the constitutionally provided requirement of vetting by the House.

Prof. Frimpong Oppong will add to Prof. Mensah-Bonsu as the legal academics on the highest Bench of Ghana. Prof Frimpong Oppong joins the Bench with a salad of experience in the practice of law in Ghana and on the global stage as an arbitrator among others.

He is also a respected teacher of the law with teaching experience in Ghana, Europe and America. Prof. Frimpong Oppong joins the Bench like his predecessors, Justice Professor Date-Bah and Mensah-Bonsu, with high academic laurels and achievements.

Justice Bernasko Essah comes to the Bench having practised as a State Attorney, private practitioner, a Justice of the High Court and Court of Appeal. She boasts of membership in the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ).
