The Wa municipal security council has called for the deployment of additional security personnel to augment the existing ones in Wa to help combat the killing menace in the area.
The call comes on the back of the gruesome murder of some 16 persons in the town by unknown assailants.
The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Issahaku Moomin Tahiru who doubles as the chairman of the Wa Municipal Security Council, speaking in an interview with Citi News said the complicated nature of the killings demand the deployment of more men to the town to support the efforts of their counterparts to help unravel the circumstances surrounding the murders and to apprehend the perpetrators.
He further disclosed that the council has directed the commencement of a 24-hour joint police-military patrols in the Wa town as part of measures to ensure peace is restored.
About 16 people, most private security guards have been killed in Wa since 2022 but not a single individual has been found to be behind the killings that have wreaked havoc and fear on the residents.
“It is a very unfortunate situation and a very bad occurrence. It is something that is subjecting the whole municipality to a very unfortunate situation, putting the municipality in a very bad light across the globe.”
“This incident that happened on Monday has waken our call to citizens in the municipality to rise up and to assist us with information that will lead to the arrest and apprehension of the perpetrators of this crime…We’re just appealing to whoever that has the authority and power to give us additional policing who will come here to stay permanently to work to help us,” Mr Tahiru stated.
