The Minority in Parliament has announced an engagement with the police on modalities towards its planned demonstration against the management of the Bank of Ghana on July 30.
Members of the caucus staged a protest on October 3, 2023, to demand the resignation of BoG’s Governor, Dr Ernest Addison and deputies, after the Bank recorded a 60.81 billion Ghana Cedi loss in the 2022 fiscal year and further allocated over 250 million dollars for the construction of a new headquarters.
Addressing journalists on the next protest by the minority group, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, said, “Given how they have run down the Central Bank, given how they have failed in terms of monitoring policy which has led to high interest rates making it impossible for businesses to expand and borrow, given how they have failed in terms of holding inflation, prices, generally making it impossible to do business in Ghana… And how all that has generated unemployment, we have taken a stance that the central bank management must be held accountable.
“They can’t mess up the economy the way they have and just be allowed to stay there, and not be held accountable in any way. It is time to go back and we’re marching to the central bank to demand the resignation of the governor and his deputies and the board of the bank.
“We have written to the regional police commander. We have indicated the road we want to use and the date we have given him which is July 30.”
