Minority’s debate invitation an attempt to shield Mahama from debating Bawumia

The Director of Communication for the Dr. Mahamudu Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has suggested that the Minority’s invitation to the NPP flagbearer to join the debate on the mid-year budget is an attempt to shield John Dramani Mahama from Dr. Bawumia.

The Minority caucus in Parliament has invited Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to participate in the 2024 mid-year budget review debate, following his call for a debate with the NDC flagbearer.

However, Aboagye asserts that the NPP has competent MPs ready to engage in the debate with their NDC counterparts, making it unnecessary for Vice President Bawumia to be present.

“The vice president is really flattered with this initiative by the minority, especially when they lined up seven to eight people to come and debate just him. The fact is that, if this is the minority’s way of shielding the vice president from debating ex-president Mahama, that’s ok.

“Since when did parliament select people and line them up to debate one person on the floor of the house? Based on the set criteria, you know every debate has a rule, from the letter by the minority to the vice president, it’s quite obvious that the vice president may not have to bother.

“He has a lot more competent persons from the majority side who can handle these seven men from the minority side without him having to be there,” the Director of Communication for Dr Mahamudu Campaign Team said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim insists that Dr. Bawumia owes Ghanaians an explanation regarding the government’s performance, which is why they extended the invitation for him to participate in the debate.

“We know all the economic and financial records and indicators…he owes the good people of Ghana accountability for his seven and half years of stewardship.

“So, we’re not calling President Akufo-Addo to come, but we’re calling Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as chairman of the Economic Management Team, and as vice president of Ghana who has been given the mandate by article 111 in the constitution to come and do that constitutional mandate. It is not that we’re begging, he owes us that explanation.”
