Nana Addo Boaman, the Chief of Nahinso, has been released by the police following his arrest ordered by an official from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The Chief was accused of unauthorised filling of wetlands in the area.
On Thursday, July 18, NADMO officials confronted the Chief of Nahinso, alleging that he was filling a local wetland. The confrontation occurred amid concerns about the environmental and legal consequences of the Chief’s actions.
Nana Boaman defended his actions, arguing that his efforts to fill the area aimed to prevent flooding. He maintained that his work was essential to address persistent issues related to poor road conditions and water accumulation.
This incident marks the second time the Chief has had a disagreement with NADMO officials over his attempts to fill the land.
Frank Duodu, the Ashanti Regional Director of NADMO, ordered the Chief’s arrest, contending that he had no authority to fill the wetland. Duodu highlighted the environmental implications, pointing out that the area is a designated wetland, and the Chief’s actions could result in significant ecological damage.
Following his arrest, the Chief was taken to the Asokwa Divisional Police Command to aid with investigations. He was subsequently released.
