No LPG shortage despite Atuabo plant shutdown – Marketers Association

The LPG Marketers Association has debunked reports suggesting a shortage of the product on the market.

In an interview with Channel One News, the Association’s president, Gabriel Kumi, indicated that there’s enough gas to satisfy consumers despite the shutdown of Atuabo Gas for routine maintenance starting next week Monday.

He explained that all marketers have been informed about the planned shutdown of the Atuabo Gas plant, but there are alternative bulk distributors in Tema that have enough supply for the coming weeks.

Kumi emphasised that consumers should be reassured as there will be no shortage of LPG in the coming weeks and months.

“To the best of our knowledge, there’s no shortage of LPG in the system. I’m sure when you go around to the gas stations in the country, you’ll realise that all the gas stations are having products, we are serving consumers. What has really happened is that you know we take our 50% of our LPG from Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.”

“We had information from our regulator that the Gas Processing Plant is going to shut down for about 2–3 weeks for routine maintenance and so that’s going to be done from Monday [August 5]. But we have more than enough stock in Tema. So consumers should be rest assured, there’s not going to be any shortage of LPG in the system in the coming weeks and months.”
