The Director of Communications for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Sylvester Sarpong Saprano, has labelled the independent committee of the party as unconstitutional and illegal, following the committee’s preparations towards meeting regional executives concerning the 2024 general elections.
The Independent Committee, according to the Director of Communications, has no legal capacity to steer the affairs of the CPP because the central committee of the party has not authorised it.
This follows the independent committee’s plans to carry out a constituency album, organise a congress in efforts to conduct presidential primaries and to select a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to Citi News in an interview, Mr. Sarpong Saprano said that all organs in the party are expired, except the chairman and the leader.
“The so-called independent committee is unconstitutional and illegal. They don’t have any constitutional foundation and they lack capacity. This so-called independent committee has come out again and invited the press and said they are doing an audit.
“First of all, the people of Ghana should know that all organs in the Convention People’s Party are expired, with the exception of the chairman and leader so there are no polling station executives, constituency executives, and we never had electoral area executives so all we are asking is that the independent committee should go to the central committee for authority.”
