Organisers of the Gen-Z demonstration have urged the youth to stand with them in upholding the constitutional rights of Gen-Zs to protest.
This appeal comes in the wake of a police injunction aimed at halting the demonstration’s organisers.
The organising entities are the Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement (PTAAM), Arise Ghana and the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA).
The demonstration, scheduled to last seven days, was anticipated to mobilise no fewer than two million young individuals on the streets of Accra from July 31st to August 6th, 2024.
The demonstration’s objective was to protest against the country’s intense economic difficulties and the government’s tax impositions.
On Friday, the organisers stated in a release, “The Court is set to move the injunction application on the 30th of July, and we the Convenors intend to go to Court to defend ourselves and insist on the rights of Gen-Zs to demonstrate in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana as it is within our lawful rights as Citizens.”
They further added, “We therefore extend an invitation to the media and to young people across the country to come in their numbers to the High Court on Tuesday 30th July to solidarise with us.”
