The 2024 edition of Citi FM/Channel One TV’s ‘Literacy Challenge’ has reached its second stage, with the top 51 Junior High School students taking an aptitude test at the Accra Digital Centre.
This marks a slight increase from previous years, where only 50 students were selected for the aptitude test.
Yaa Achiaa Osei Boamah, whose parents had indicated her inability to join her colleagues in Accra from Bolgatanga for the aptitude test went the extra mile to show up in Accra on Saturday.
The initial communication of her absence forced Citi FM/Channel One TV to rope in the next best student.
However, following Yaa’s determined decision to go ahead, the management of Citi FM/Channel One TV resolved to keep both in the competition, pushing the number to 51.
Notably, the top three essayists received gold, silver, and bronze medals for the first time.
The 90-minute aptitude test assessed students’ mathematics, English language, and social studies knowledge.
The results will determine the final 10 contestants who will advance to the last stage of the competition.
These top performers will engage in a classic quiz competition, vying for the grand prize of GHS10,000.
Parents accompanying their children expressed excitement and optimism about reaching the final stage.
Earlier, contestants had submitted essays on the topic “The Role of the Youth in Shaping Ghana’s Future” by July 13, 2024. The essays, which had to be at least 600 words, outlined desired changes and how young people can contribute to making them a reality.”
