John Dramani Mahama has vowed to revitalise the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by removing existing limitations if elected to power.
He also promised to enhance the overall healthcare system by providing accessible and affordable healthcare services to all Ghanaians.
Mahama made this commitment during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27.
“We’re going to improve the health system; we’re going to uncap the NHIS. Currently, this government has capped the NHIS and has taken some of the NHIS money into the Consolidated Fund.
“That is why when you [are] with your NHIS Card, the hospitals are reluctant to serve you because they don’t refund the claims that they make. So, we will uncap the NHIS, so that when you go you can get good, affordable treatment at our health facilities,” he stated.
