The leadership of Organised Labour has warned that it will not relent in its efforts to take action if the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) fails to engage with them to address all outstanding issues related to the management of pensions within one month.
This follows Organised Labour’s decision to call off its nationwide strike on Monday, July 14. The strike was in protest against the sale of 60 percent of SSNIT shares in four hotels to Rock City Hotel.
Organised Labour’s decision to call off the strike came after SSNIT, in a letter dated July 12, 2024, informed them that it had terminated the intended sale of its stake in the four hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong.
In a media interview, Chairman of the Forum of Public Sector Workers, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, stressed that SSNIT must engage Organised Labour within a month or face their wrath.
“What we are saying is that we are giving SSNIT one month to address all issues relating to our pensions. And let’s state clearly that this animal farm style of governance must give way to scientific thinking. We are giving SSNIT one month to address all issues relating to our pensions and that is what we stand by.
“We are saying we are giving SSNIT one month to address all issues relating to our pensions or else we will advise ourselves and that is what we stand by,” he stated.
