The Chairman of the Government Assurance Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on Ghanaians to reject the submissions of the Minister of Health regarding the controversial $34 million ambulance spare parts deal.
Mr Ablakwa accused former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu of conspiring with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited to swindle the state in the ambulance deal.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, appearing before the Government Assurance Committee of Parliament, denied allegations of paying $34.9 million to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited, stating its willingness to support further clarity on the issue.
In an interview with Citi News, the North Tongu lawmaker indicated that the Ministry of Health cannot be trusted due to its handling of similar issues in the past.
“This is a Health Ministry that has a penchant for denying payments only to be exposed. You remember the Sputnik V $2.4 million scandal. They were insisting that they had not made any payment. When we finally broke the matter in Parliament, it emerged that indeed they had paid $2.4 million. Same situation with the National Cathedral and if you will recall, the government said that they were not paying using our taxes.
“I don’t have to remind you about the SkyTrain $2 million, which is gone, Pwalugu $12 million for no work done, and Agyapa $12 million. So this is a government that has a very terrible reputation. When they are caught in the act, they tell you, oh, you know, we haven’t paid yet, no cause for alarm and yet when you go into it, the money is gone,” he stated.
