Benjamin Quashie, the Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders in South Africa, has expressed concerns about President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Okyenhene Amoatia Ofori Panyin in relation to the contentious ‘Agyapadie Document.’
Quashie pointed out that the document reveals a potential state-capture agenda involving President Akufo-Addo and his associates. He stressed that dismissing the document’s content implies an awareness on the part of the leaders mentioned.
In an interview on Accra FM, Mr Quashie voiced apprehensions about the potential prophetic insights of the author, contradicting the leaders’ denial.
He acknowledged that not all members of the Akyem community should be judged based on the document, but he singled out the descendants of J.B. Danquah, such as Ken Ofori-Atta and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, as examples of greedy individuals within the “Akyem Maafia.”
He made it clear that there are also praiseworthy individuals within the Akyem group.
During the interview, Mr Quashie also took issue with President Akufo-Addo for attributing the document to his political adversaries, implying that financial activities, such as bank closures benefiting Data Bank, suggest hidden agendas.
He observed patterns in President Akufo-Addo’s government that favour certain entities, highlighting a close connection between insured services and businesses owned by individuals like Ken Ofori-Atta.
Expressing worries about the extent of potential state capture under the current administration, Mr Quashie called for a comprehensive investigation and restructuring, drawing comparisons to historical instances under leaders like Jacob Zuma in South Africa.
He expects corrective measures to be taken when there is a change in governance and President Mahama takes over the government.
