Residents of Ntiribuoho, in the Afigya Kwabre South District, are demanding answers on an abandoned hospital project initiated three years ago.
The unfinished hospital, allocated an acre of land by the Dadiesoaba Hene, Nana Baffour Kofi Atobrah II, in 2020, was expected to be completed within six months but has been left unattended for over three years.
The Middle Belt Development Authority, responsible for financing the project, has failed to deliver on its promise, leaving the community without access to better healthcare services.
The building, currently at the lintel level, is deteriorating, with weeds taking over the site and the concrete mixer left exposed to the elements.
Local officials, including Assemblymember Prince Yaw Boateng, have expressed concerns about the neglect of the community’s health needs.
“The chief here decided to give us one acre of land, so the government gave it to a contractor for the contractor to start. He started a little within six months. When the land reached its state now, the contractor said there were not enough funds, so he stopped. Since then, for about four years now, nobody has come on it.”
While some attribute the stalled project to financial reasons, others believe the community only receives attention during general elections.
The hospital, intended to serve communities such as Ntiribuoho, Wansamire, Sasa, Buoho, Hemang, and Akyena, remains an empty shell, raising concerns about the future of healthcare in the area.
The nearest hospital facility is 4 kilometres away, making it difficult for residents to access healthcare when needed.
District Chief Executive Christian Adu Poku confirmed the project is 50% complete but refuted claims of abandonment, citing COVID-19 and related issues as reasons for the delay.
He assured that the government is working to fulfil its promises to the people of Ntiribuoho but failed to provide a timeline for the contractor’s return to the site.
