The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, has commissioned a multipurpose astroturf at the McCoy College of Education in Nadowli, located in the Upper West Region.

The multimillion Ghana Cedis facility aims to harness the talents of the youth and enhance sports development in the Upper West Region.

This sports complex, the first of its kind in the region and estimated at 10 million Ghana Cedis, is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with floodlights to enable sporting activities at night.

With a seating capacity of over one thousand, the sports complex features a magnificent building that includes changing rooms for both participating and officiating teams, as well as public washrooms.

Speaking at the commissioning event, Bagbin charged the youth to strive to transform themselves into being drives of change in their communities.

“Let’s use some of these opportunities to see how we can transform ourselves into being drivers of change in our communities. If you don’t help yourself, nobody will help you. I am happy seeing you the young ones in your numbers. This is for youth development, equality and for the future of the youth”.

Ahead of the commissioning of the astroturf at the McCoy College of Education, the Speaker cut sod for the construction of the first phase of a similar facility at the campus of the Simon Diedon Dombo University of Business and integrated development studies (UBIDS) in Wa.

Speaking at a meeting with the management of the university before the sod cutting, the speaker pledged his commitment and support for the school and appealed to them to work hard to make the institution an enviable one.

The Vice Chancellor of the UBIDS, Prof Emmanuel K. Derbile lauded the speaker for his support for the school.
He said the sports project, when completed will serve both the practical and strategic needs of the university.

“The sports complex will fit into our agenda to introduce physical education in the school of education and lifelong learning “.

On behalf of management, the vice chancellor promised proper use and management of the sports complex when completed.
