The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has urged Ghanaians to endorse Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, in the December polls emphasising his commitment to accountability.
Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s manifesto in Takoradi, Kodua highlighted the significance of electing a leader who will be transparent and answerable to the people.
He contrasted Dr Bawumia’s accountability with that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, who will not be accountable after his four-year term.
Kodua also criticised the NDC for delaying their manifesto launch, suggesting they are waiting to copy the NPP’s ideas.
Kodua highlighted Dr Bawumia’s commitment to accountability, noting that Ghanaians will have the opportunity to evaluate his administration after four years and decide whether to renew his mandate.
“Today is a very important day in our party calendar. After successfully making history and proving doubters wrong by electing and Northerner and a Muslim presidential candidate. We are again as a political party setting the pace by being the first to launch the manifesto for 2024 election. I’m not surprised at all because even in exams, students who don’t prepare always want the good ones to start so they can copy them. So, I’ll not be surprised that people will copy our manifesto because they are waiting for us the good ones to start.”
“As a Ghanaian, I’m concerned about who leads this country in the next four years, and I know all well-meaning Ghanaians are equally concerned and will therefore choose a leader who’ll account to them after his four years stewardship as opposed to the one who after just four years will exit office. With Dr. Bawumia, Ghanaians will have the chance to evaluate his administration after four years and decide to whether renew his mandate or not, therefore Ghanaians can hold accountable to his manifesto,” he stated.
