Former Army Commander calls for increased ICT resources in Senior High Schools

A former Army Commander, Major General Samuel Nii Anum Odotei (Rtd.), has called on the government to provide more Information and Communications Technology (ICT) resources in Senior High Schools.

He made this remark while delivering the keynote address at the launch of the Labone Senior High School’s 75th anniversary, themed “75 Years of Academic Excellence: Celebrating Our Past and Empowering Our Future Through Technology.”

The year-long celebration will include a series of activities such as health walks and gaming events.

He emphasised that the rapidly evolving world demands that young people become proficient in technology to benefit from its advantages and compete globally.

These benefits include faster access to information, flexible study options, and the development of media literacy.

“We need to provide more ICT resources by the provision of more ICT laboratories, proper maintenance of available ICT resources, trained ICT teachers, and a constant supply of power and power backups. Introducing ICT tools and computers in areas without power supply is futile because these devices need to be charged,” he stated.

Major General Odotei also highlighted the importance of preparing for the future, noting, that, “the Western world is far ahead of us, and the biggest problem I have is that when people are moving forward and you are standing still, then technically, you’re moving backwards.”

A member of the Labone Old Students Association (LOSA), Francis Lamptey, expressed his delight with the institution’s progress in nurturing thousands of students at the second cycle level.

“I must say that I am who I am today because of Labone Senior High School. Celebrating 75 years today is a milestone in educating several students at the secondary school level. I wish them the very best,” he said.

The Headmistress of Labone Senior High School, Madam Rejoice Akua Acorlor, pledged that the school would continue to thrive as the best secondary institution in the country.

“We promise to continue shining brightly, nurturing future generations with the aid of cutting-edge technology. Through the integration of technological tools, we aim to enrich the learning experience, stimulate creativity, and equip our students with the skills, competencies, and character qualities necessary to thrive in a dynamic world,” she added.
