The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is celebrating 50 years of driving on the right-hand side of the road.
Ghana, on August 4, 1974, switched from left-hand to right-hand side driving, aligning with international standards and paving the way for improved road safety.
This historic change has had a profound impact on the country’s transportation landscape, showcasing Ghana’s commitment to regional integration and collaboration.
Ghana has become more compatible with its francophone neighbours, facilitating smoother cross-border travel and trade.
The switch, according to the NSRA in a statement on Sunday, August 4, has also brought numerous benefits, including improved traffic flow consistency, reduced congestion, and enhanced road safety.
NRSA is expected to host a series of events and activities, including public awareness campaigns, stakeholder engagements, and community outreaches to commemorate this milestone.
The Authority is also urging all road users to exercise responsibility and promote safety on the country’s roads, as far as celebration is concerned.
