The Nkosuohene of Ngleshie Amanfrom Traditional area who doubles as the founder of Abbeam Institute of Technology Nana Agyeman Abbeam Ampoma Danso is urging parents to consider Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as the best option for their wards when choosing an area of study.
He emphasised that most developed countries focus on skill training to develop adding that Ghana can replicate the same to change the fortunes of the country.
Nana Danso was speaking at the 16th graduation ceremony of the Abbeam Institute of Technology under the theme “transforming today with Creative Skills.”
The Traditional ruler urged graduates not to depend on white colour jobs but strive to create opportunities for themselves falling back on their technical and vocational education.
“Technical education is the best option for us as a country. Developed countries who embraced TVET education have seen massive developments. With TVET education there is ready job for the graduate in the sense that he or she can use the knowledge acquired to establish himself without depending on white colour jobs,” Nana Danso said.
The founder of Abbeam Institute noted that support from the government in the sector will be helpful.
The Central Regional Coordinator of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) Abdullah Baba Saeed urged students to be focused while calling on them to be good ambassadors of TVET.
“As TVET students you must strive to raise the bar wherever you find yourself and be good ambassadors. You must prove to people that TVET education is the best for the country,” he noted.
President of the National Union of Ghana students, Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel called on government to allocate more funds into the sector while also ensuring that private tertiary institutions who are into vocational education do not lack.
