Gyakye Quayson optimistic of being retained as Assin North MP

Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson has expressed optimism about his mandate being renewed by the people of Assin North in the 2024 election.

The MP held a dual citizenship of Canada and Ghana which led to a court case challenging his eligibility to hold office as an MP in 2020.

However, he contested a by-election after his seat was declared vacant by the court. He won the by-election to regain his seat as an MP.

But the MP says despite the struggles he has embarked on several developmental projects as a form of giving back to the people of Assin North and is hopeful his mandate will be renewed in the 2024 elections.

Speaking after the running mate of the NDC Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang visited the constituency as part of her tour of the Central Region, Mr. Quayson described the by-election as a clear distinction between Justice and development.

“I will do everything in my capacity as a member of parliament to bring development to Assin North because that’s what they voted for me for in the last year. Since you all know my members well, membership of Parliament has been legitimised.

“In fact, only last week I tackled a major bridge called the Tweanka Bridge leading to the capital town of Assin Breko and you should see the excitement in that. I’m not going to give up. I’m going to pull every resource at my own capacity and availability to make sure this project is done.”

“I see Assin North is going to renew my mandate because they appreciate the work I’m doing and I also appreciate the dignity and the respect and being resilient and fighting for them. They know that I’ll never leave them behind.”
