Theresa Afua Lokko, mother of Frederick Lokko, the winner of the 2024 Literacy Challenge was overcome with emotion as her son was declared the winner of the Challenge.
The proud mother couldn’t hold back tears of joy as she celebrated her son’s achievement stating, ‘I’m now a proud mother’.
Frederick, a student at Covenant Presby School, emerged victorious after a rigorous competition that saw over 1,000 Junior High School students submit essays on the topic “The role of the youth in shaping the future of Ghana.”
Mrs. Lokko in an interview with Citi News thanked God and expressed her gratitude to the organisers, Citi FM and Channel One TV, for providing a platform for her son to showcase his talents.
She also thanked the teachers and head teacher who supported Fredrick throughout his journey.
The beaming mother encouraged fellow parents to support their children’s dreams, saying, “I’m so happy that my son is the best. This is a dream come true. We thank the Almighty, but if it’s not the will of God, this wouldn’t have happened.
“I am so happy. I thank God for bringing us this far. I thank the head teacher, the teachers who participated, and the teachers who helped my son come this far.”
“And to you, Citi FM, we are grateful. Thank you very much. May the good Lord bless you. What I would tell parents outside is to encourage their children. Whatever their children are capable of doing, they should encourage them rather than discourage them because they don’t know where their children can take them.
“Because of what my son has done, I’m now a proud mother. So I’m encouraging all parents to help their children come up.”
Frederick’s win comes with a cash prize of GH¢10,000, a trophy, a medal, a certificate and packages from the sponsors.
