The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Chapter of the Federation of Allied Health Professionals has rejected the Ministry of Health’s seven-day ultimatum to address their concerns.
The chapter on Friday, August 2, suspended outpatient services at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital due to the hospital’s refusal to appoint an independent body to oversee their operations.
The group includes the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, the Ghana Physiotherapy Association, and the Ghana Society of Radiographers, among 15 other professional associations.
The chapter threatens to commence industrial action on Tuesday, August 6.
In an interview with Citi News, the chapter’s Chairman, Dr. Francis Kwakye Antwi, explained that the ultimatum highlights their belief that their concerns have not been taken seriously despite numerous appeals.
“The mother Federation actually met with them, but their proposition didn’t meet our expectations, so we’re still going ahead with the roadmap. They were pleading with us that they were going to make sure that Korle-Bu appoints and even other sister teaching hospitals who have not done the same will do so, so we should give them 7 days. But we think that this is not a matter of 7 days.
“Korle-Bu’s issues have lingered on for how many days? We started on July 15, when we wrote that ultimatum letter. From July 15 to now, if they wanted to solve the urgency it deserves, they shouldn’t be talking about more days. They can have an emergency meeting and get it resolved now,” Dr Francis Kwakye Antwi said
