The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has issued an urgent warning to residents living along the White and Black Volta Rivers to relocate to higher ground, as the Bagre Dam is set to begin its annual spillage on Monday, August 19, 2024.
As of August 16, 2024, the dam’s water level had reached 234.23 meters, a little below the 235-meter threshold for spillage.
According to Alhaji Abdallah Salifu, Northern Regional Director of NADMO, this alert aims to prevent loss of life and minimise the impact on livelihoods, particularly for those with farms along the rivers.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the spillage occurs.
