The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has categorically rejected the notion that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are identical.
Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch on Saturday, August 24, 2024, Ablakwa emphasized the NDC’s commitment to fighting corruption, distinguishing it from the ruling party.
Ablakwa dismissed claims that both parties are the same, stating, “You hear on a daily basis, some people say the two parties appear the same, NPP and NDC are the same. In this fight against corruption, we refuse, we reject that baseless and unfounded claim that the two parties are the same, we are not the same. The NDC is different.”
He highlighted the contrast between the two parties, citing the National Cathedral project as an example.
Ablakwa criticized the government for deceiving Ghanaians, demolishing important buildings, and misusing funds.
The MP praised former President Mahama’s leadership, saying, “Fortunately, President Mahama has been a president before. Did you ever hear President Mahama say that he woke from a nightmare and so has decided to make a national pledge, and so he’s going to sink 58.1 million dollars in the world’s most expensive pit? That hasn’t happened under any NDC leader where God is deceived, the clergy are deceived, and Ghanaian people are deceived. It has never happened and will never happen under President Mahama.”
“That wasn’t the only deceit with the 339-million-cedi national cathedral. In the process, so many important edifices were demolished. As we speak, the Judicial training institute has been demolished, Judges’ bungalows have been demolished, scholarship secretariat demolished, passport head office demolished.”
“So, we have one leader who is a nation builder building Terminal 3, building Kumasi Airport, building Tamale airport and another leader demolishing, destroying in a deceptive pledge where he says he’ll not use our taxes. How can you say these people are the same? These two parties are not the same.”
