Reinvestigate Airbus scandal – Fixing the Country Movement to OSP

The Fixing the Country Movement has urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to reopen the investigation into the Airbus scandal.

They argue that there is a conflict of interest, as the OSP’s report identifies former President John Dramani Mahama as Government Official One (GO1) but clears him of any corruption.

The OSP has identified Mr Mahama as the Government Official 1 in the Airbus Scandal.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, August 8, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng also confirmed the brother of the former president, Samuel Mahama, as intermediary 5.

Giving a brief overview of investigations carried out by his outfit, the OSP confirmed that Mr Mahama was identified as GO1 and Individual 1 by UK and US courts respectively but played no role in the acquisition.

The movement is therefore giving OSP 14 days to commence the investigation and provide a report, or they will launch a series of protests.

The convenor of the Fixing the Country Movement, Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah at a presser on Sunday noted that “Fixing the Country Movement” strongly believes that the entire OSP investigation into the airbus corruption scandal is worse than a whitewash. The truth has been painfully extracted one inch at considerable public expense on the Airbus corruption investigation by the OSP. We utterly reject anything that looks like the OSP is playing mind games with the good people of Ghana.”

“…Fixing the Country Movement hold the view that Mr Mahama and his Adam Mahama brother have lots of questions to answer to the people of Ghana as such we want to put it on record that OSP erred in law, in its judgement on the matter of the Airbus issue. Rather than trying to clear Mr Mahama of any corrupt related offences, the OSP must revisit this matter in the interest of public accountability, social justice, probity and accountable governance.”
