Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has expressed grave concerns about the alarming rate at which state lands are being sold to politically exposed persons under the current administration.
During the launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Manifesto, flagbearer John Dramani Mahama pledged to bar his family and political appointees from purchasing state assets.
In an interview with Selorm Adonoo on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Ablakwa described the sale of state lands to politically exposed individuals as “unconscionable and unacceptable”.
He cited specific government appointees who have purchased state lands and assured that the next NDC government will retrieve all looted lands, arguing that the state did not receive fair value for money and that the sales did not follow due process.
“The rate at which we’re losing state assets to politically exposed persons is so unconscionable, so unacceptable. And we should not countenance, we should not tolerate this. You heard the President lament not too long ago that the reason why he missed all his deadlines for Agenda 111 is because he couldn’t find the government lands to build on, yet this president keeps selling these lands.”
He further stated that the government has failed to provide them with the list of individuals who have purchased state lands, despite their requests since 2022.
