The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has warned pensioners and the general public regarding a recent surge in fraudulent activities.
The warning comes as fraudsters attempt to exploit vulnerable individuals, particularly pensioners, by deceiving them into paying unnecessary fees.
Scammers have allegedly been posing as SSNIT and Controller and Accountant General’s Department officials contacting individuals, and demanding payment to “facilitate” outstanding pension payment processing.
In a statement released on Friday, August 23, 2024, SSNIT emphasised that its services are free and urged the public to use official channels for inquiries, verification, and reporting fraud-related issues.
SSNIT reassured the public that it does not require any payments for its services and encouraged individuals to verify information through official channels to avoid falling victim to these scams.
The public is also advised to report any suspicious activities or fraudulent attempts to SSNIT’s official channels, ensuring the safety and security of their personal information and pension benefits.
