The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed the party’s intentions to snatch the Abuakwa South Constituency seat from the NPP in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Addressing a charged gathering at Akyem Adukrom as he resumed his tour of the region, Mr Nketia, indicated that no area in Ghana is a no-go zone for the NDC.
“We will wrestle the Abuakwa South Constituency seat from the NPP in the December elections.”
In the run-up to the 2020 general elections, the Akyem Abuakwa State performed some traditional rites to ban the NDC from campaigning in any Akyem area over some alleged derogatory comments made by the party’s former Ashanti Regional Secretary Kwame Zu.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia condemned attacks levelled against supporters of the NDC in the Abuakwa South Constituency of the Eastern Region, especially during election seasons.
Some party faithful of the NDC in recent times have been attacked with the party office in Kyebi vandalized by people believed to be sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party NPP.
The Amankrado of Akyem Adukrom who spoke on behalf of the chiefs expressed the frustration of his people on the deliberate neglect during a street light project and the deplorable nature of the town roads and roads leading to cocoa-growing communities especially from Adukrom to Agyapong and called on the NDC to fix them when elected into office in December.
Mr Asiedu Nketia accepted a request from the chiefs for the construction of a culvert in the area and admonished residents in the Akyem Abuakwa area to vote based on the current economic conditions in the country.
