The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the voter register to be re-exhibited so that the public can verify the errors that the Electoral Commission (EC) claims to have rectified.
Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Tanko Rashid-Computer, told Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that it should be simple for the EC to re-exhibit the voters register in order to strengthen the credibility of the upcoming polls.
“We are calling for a forensic audit and a re-exhibition of the voters register that they are saying they have corrected because we cannot trust them holding this data till December 7. That register should be re-exhibited so that everybody will be satisfied that this data is correct.”
The leadership of the NDC raised concerns with the provisional voters register that was shared and indicated that some discrepancies were uncovered and demanded a meeting with the EC to deliberate on how to resolve those issues.
The EC granted the NDC audience but denied the severity of the discrepancies that were raised and claimed that those were common occurrences that are often rectified and did not require a forensic audit as the NDC was also demanding.
Tanko-Computer further urged the EC’s chairperson to follow Justice Crabbe’s example and re-exhibit the register.
“Justice Crabbe did the same for the Electoral Commission in 2016 and it satisfied the NPP and they went ahead and won the elections.”
