A fire outbreak on Wednesday, September 18, destroyed about 50 wooden structures at Tema Community 18.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly responded to the emergency, deploying nine fire tenders to combat the inferno.
Reinforcements were called in from nearby fire stations in Obekyire and Tema New Town to assist in containing the blaze.
Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey, speaking to Citi News, attributed the rapid spread of the fire to the proximity of the wooden structures.
He emphasised the importance of caution when using gas cookers and other flammable materials in wooden buildings.
Mr. Nartey further advised the public to desist from using gas cookers in wooden structures.
The GNFS has assured that investigations into the cause of the fire will commence once the situation is under control, adding that no injuries were recorded.
“We always advise people: to desist from using gas cookers or gas cylinders when they occupy wooden structures but it falls on deaf ears.
“So these are part of the reasons why the fire has escalated that much. We are even working with caution to make sure that none of our officers sustains any injury as a result of exploration accessing.”
