Musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, has won the University of Ghana (UG) SRC presidential elections.
Running alongside Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, they secured 9,455 out of the 18,659 votes cast.
This comes after Asioh Joseph Mawuli, a second-year Bachelor of Arts student at the University of Ghana (UG), filed a lawsuit against the university’s management concerning the Student Representative Council’s (SRC) elections.
This legal action followed the re-entry of hiplife icon Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru NKZ, into the UGSRC presidential race.
Guru had previously filed a petition against the Council’s Electoral Commission after being disqualified from the presidential race.
His disqualification was based on his non-resident status, which violates Article 30. This article mandates that candidates must be campus residents and eligible to contest for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position in their hall.
In his writ summons, Mawuli demanded a declaration that the decision by the SRC vetting committee to disqualify Adjei Yeboah Maradona and Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah for failing to meet the qualification requirement under Article 30(1)(a) of the SRC constitution is lawful and binding.
