The National Media Commission (NMC) has inaugurated a seven-member Northern Regional Advisory Committee (RMAC) to promote ethical journalism, resolve grievances, and represent the Commission in all media-related matters within its jurisdiction.

At the inauguration ceremony held at the Global Dreams Hotel in Tamale, NMC Chairman Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh emphasized the need for close collaboration between the media and RMAC to uphold high journalistic standards.

He urged committee members to persevere in their duties, acknowledging the challenges ahead, and noted that their reward lies with God, as the Commission may not be able to offer financial compensation.

The committee will oversee media activities in the former Northern Region’s geographic area, which now includes the Northern, Savannah, and North East regions.

Mr. Ayeboafoh also advised the media to prioritize serving the public interest over individual agendas, which could jeopardise the peace and stability the country enjoys.

“Don’t get tired because this is a difficult task you have taken upon yourself, so don’t give up,” he said.

Dr. Illiasu Adam, a committee member, stressed the importance of professionalism in media practice and outlined the committee’s goal to develop programs aimed at continually reminding media entities of the need for ethical journalism.

He added that the committee’s training sessions with media organizations would aim to address complaints from individuals and groups regarding journalistic practices in the region.

The committee is composed of distinguished individuals, including Dr. Tamimu Abubakar Sadiq as Chairman, Father Thaddeus Kuusah, Hajia Hajara Issahaku Telly, Dr. Illiasu Adam, Hajia Kande Abukari, Albert Futukpor, and Eric Annor.

They have pledged to work tirelessly to promote ethical journalism and address grievances in the region.
