Management of Northern Ashanti Mines Company Limited in Konongo, Ashanti Region, has called for improved security measures to protect its employees following recent disturbances.

The call for action comes after an incident on Monday in which two employees sustained injuries.

The incident occurred when the company’s taskforce questioned the destination of gold ore being transported in a truck, leading to a clash when the miners summoned reinforcements.

The confrontation resulted in injuries to two company staff members and damage to property, including vehicles. The injured employees have since been discharged from the hospital.

Illegal mining operations have long occupied Northern Ashanti Mines’ concessions, posing threats to the Owere River, crucial water source and to the pylons and substation of the Ghana Grid Company Limited in Konongo.

The company has condemned the incident and is calling for immediate security intervention to protect its employees and prevent further disturbances.
