Following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to declare the Baba Yara Stadium unfit for international matches, Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to propose the Legon Stadium as an alternative venue.

The Sports Ministry’s statement, issued on Thursday, September 12, came in response to CAF’s ruling after Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Legon Stadium, recently renovated for the 2023 African Games, has hosted various athletics events and football matches, making it a potential venue for future AFCON qualifiers.

The ministry also indicated that the GFA has requested CAF to reassess the Accra Sports Stadium for its ability to host Category 3 matches, including Ghana’s upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

Previously, the Accra Sports Stadium hosted Category 2 matches, where Ghanaian clubs FC Samartex and Nsoatreman FC competed in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
