Stanbic Heights, Accra’s premiere ‘A’ Grade office development and the most urbane public edifice in the immediate arrondissement of the Kotoka International Airport, has been awarded the prestigious EDGE certification for achieving key energy savings features.
The EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Certification system is an innovation of IFC, (a member of the World Bank Group), that seeks to address the negative impact of buildings on the environment, making it easier to design and certify resource-efficient and zero carbon buildings of every type, everywhere.
Developed by Fairllop Property Developers Limited and Managed by Broll Ghana, Stanbic Heights is strategically located in one of Accra’s most thriving business districts, on the Liberation Link arterial, within the classy Airport City enclave and is in proximity to the international airport and other local and international businesses.
The building became operational in 2013, offering a gross leasable area of 20,145 square metres and accommodating a mixed range of tenants, from high-end retail businesses to unique home and deco.
It is currently home to tenants from the technology, energy and financial markets, key among which are Stanbic Bank, Samsung, MasterCard Foundation, Genser Energy, Baker Hughes, DHL, Old Mutual, Maxam Ghana Limited, and Hyundai Doosan.
Stanbic Heights’ Edge Certification was achieved by the building’s sustainability in three vital areas, namely energy consumption, water consumption and the energy footprint of construction materials.
Energy and water-saving technologies are incorporated into buildings, thereby saving resources and limiting carbon emissions.
The certification process took into consideration 20% efficiency standards on energy, water, and embodied materials to meet the certification requirement for the EDGE Standard.

The Certification audit took account of the building’s embodied technical solutions, as registered in the area of energy and water conservation technologies, such as its reduced window–to-wall ratio; the use of high-performance glass; fresh air pre-conditioned systems; efficient lighting for interior areas; efficient lighting for exterior areas and power factor correction.
Stanbic Heights’ water-saving system is achieved with the use of water-efficient faucets and efficient water closets for all bathrooms, and water-efficient faucets in Kitchen sinks and urinals.
The building’s materials scored high marks for the use of material-efficient floor slabs, floor finish, material-efficient roof slabs, wall interiors and exteriors, and window frames.
Commenting on Stanbic Heights’ EDGE Certification, George Adjei-Ampofo, Regional Head, West Africa, of Lango Real Estate which owns the property, said: “We strongly believe that in developing green and sustainable buildings, our clients are also able to reduce their carbon footprint through conducting their operations in a certified green building.”
