The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has raised serious allegations against the Electoral Commission (EC), claiming irregularities in the voter register.
According to the party, 5,138 voter names in the region have been duplicated in the EC’s voter register.

Additionally, 334 voters were transferred in some parts of the country to the Pusiga constituency without their consent or knowledge of the affected voters, raising concerns about potential fraudulent activity or manipulation of voter data.

The Upper East Regional Secretary of the NDC, Donatus Akamugre, expressed alarm over the alleged discrepancies, accusing the EC of undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
He further revealed that 2,094 newly registered voters from the region in 2023 have been deleted from the 2024 provisional voter register without any valid explanation.

Addressing a large crowd of NDC supporters and sympathizers during a protest in Bolgatanga, Mr. Akamugre demanded accountability from the Electoral Commission.
The protest, which drew hundreds of participants, saw demonstrators march through the principal streets of Bolgatanga, chanting slogans and waving placards expressing their discontent with the EC.

The demonstrators eventually presented a petition to the Electoral Commission, addressed to the EC Chairperson, Madam Jean Mensa, through the Upper East Regional Director, William Obeng Adarkwa.
The NDC is demanding immediate action to rectify what they see as deliberate attempts to disenfranchise voters in the region.

Even though the EC has suspended its official in the Pusiga constituency for unauthorized voter transfers, the MP for Pusiga, Hajia Lardy Ayamga speaking to Channel One News is worried that the authorised transfer of votes to her constituency is a case study of the NDC concerned for an audit of the register.
“We have detected that hundreds of people have been transferred who actually do not come from our place. So, we are equally worried and we want the Jean Mensa administration and for that matter, the EC to make sure that they reverse all those transfers.”

“Secondly, we have realized that we have people whose names are on the special voters list and again on the original voters list. Meaning that, those on the special voters list can vote on the special voting day and again vote on the day of the general election”, she stated.
