Skidil Consult, in collaboration with Henry 86 Enterprise Center Seedling Nursery, organised a six-day capacity-building workshop on cashew seedling grafting for 90 participants in Wenchi, Bono Region.
The training, funded by the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), aimed to equip participants with grafting techniques to enhance cashew production.
The workshop covered practical skills in softwood grafting, cashew nursery management, and disease control.
A Representative from Henry 86 Enterprise Center Seedling Nursery, Mary Sokuong highlighted that their nursery produces a variety of tree crops, including cashew, guava, citrus, mango, and pawpaw, providing job opportunities for unemployed youth.
Sylvester Decleark Mensah, Manager at the Wenchi Agricultural Research Station, emphasised the benefits of grafted cashew seedlings over growing raw nuts, noting that grafted seedlings mature faster, flower earlier, and yield more.
Edward Bannor, Field Manager at GSDF, disclosed that the fund provided GH¢100,000 for the project.
He explained that GSDF fund is designed to meet the skills and technological needs of enterprises in both the formal and informal sectors of Ghana’s economy.
