Conservation Society, A Rocha Ghana, has filed an interlocutory injunction application against the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor.

A Rocha Ghana’s suit is seeking an order directed at restraining the Minster of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission from further declassifying Globally Significant Biodiversity Areas (GSBAs) as logging areas.

The October 10 suit sighted by Citinewsroom.com is also seeking an order for perpetual injunction restraining the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission from entering any transaction, contract, or undertaking involving granting a right or concession to exploit commercial timber rights in the above-mentioned GSBAs.

With a long history as a committed environmental Non-Governmental Organisation providing practical conservation interventions towards the sustainable management of important ecological habitats, is further pleading with the court to declare that the issuance of the Timber Utilisation Contracts without Parliamentary ratification is unlawful.

A Rocha Ghana joined forces in September, with six other civil society organizations to announce their intention to sue the government over illegal mining activities in forest reserves.
