A tragic accident occurred early Tuesday morning, on the Akropong-Dabaa road, where a vehicle lost control and plunged into the Owabi River.

Five occupants of the vehicle, including a mother and her child, were confirmed dead after they pulled from the river.

The incident happened when the mother was taking her kids to school, but allowed her neighbours to join the vehicle to their destination.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle travelling from Dabaa to Akropong veered off the main road before overturning and crashing into the river.

The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Seamstress, Helena, 28-year-old plumber, Boamah Gyasi Eric, 10-year-old school pupil, Lordina Yasan, 10, a pupil and 41-year-old teacher, Rita Agyare.

The body of the missing child identified as five-year-old Doreen Yasan was found after the local divers and the community people performed some rituals.

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Mount Sinai morgue as family members, friends, and the community mourn the tragic loss.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially along the winding and narrow roads in the area.

The Presiding Member of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, Francis Bobie Ansah confirmed the incident to Citi News.
