Akufo-Addo not committed to galamsey fight – Osman Ayariga

The Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of lacking commitment to the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Ayariga claims that the President and his party have directly benefited from these activities.

He said this on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday.

“I do not see how Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is committed to this fight against galamsey because they have benefitted from this galamsey. Nana Addo himself has benefitted from galamsey through his presidency; his own party bigwigs are engaged in galamsey,” Ayariga stated.

Meanwhile, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, Alfred Thompson, has urged Ghanaians to take collective responsibility in the fight against galamsey.

Thompson stressed that addressing the galamsey problem should not rest solely on President Akufo-Addo. He noted that the fight requires the active participation of all citizens.
