Benevolent individuals rally support for ‘Kofi brokeman’ seller Fauzia Ali’s Medical dream

Several compassionate individuals and organisations have come forward to support Fauzia Ali, a 20-year-old whose dreams of becoming a doctor were nearly derailed due to financial difficulties.

Fauzia, unable to afford the six-year medical programme at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Tamale campus, had resorted to helping her mother sell roasted plantain in Kumasi.

Following a Citi News report on her situation, generous donors responded to ensure her talent would not go to waste. Thanks to this support, Fauzia officially began her academic journey at UDS on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Among the prominent donors was former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, who, from his base outside Ghana, sent funds covering her tuition, accommodation, and stipends for her upkeep. Other contributors included businessman Ebenezer Felix Bentum, the Iqra Educational Center, JF Halal Investment, and members of the Vandal 93 group.

Additionally, staff from Ecobank Ghana, Muslim staff of the Bank of Ghana, and a group of professionals in the oil and gas industry also made generous donations. In a heartwarming gesture, the manager of Prestige Hostel in Tamale offered Fauzia a year’s free accommodation.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, currently in the North for campaign activities, met with Fauzia and pledged his support after hearing her story.

The financial aid enabled Fauzia to pay her admission fees, tuition, and purchase essential textbooks. A group of volunteers has since opened a special bank account in her name to gather additional funds, not only for Fauzia’s education but to support other brilliant students in need.

So far, donations total GHC 60,560, but volunteers say further support will be needed for her to complete the six-year programme smoothly.

Expressing her gratitude, Fauzia said, “Thank you very much. May Allah continue to bless you, and please thank them for me—I am truly grateful. People like them make the dreams of the poor come true. May God replenish their pockets.”

The outpouring of support is a testament to the power of community action, transforming Fauzia’s story from one of struggle to one of hope, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent bright young talents from reaching their full potential.

Below are the account details for Fauzia’s support.
