Court adjourns ruling on disqualification of Bernard Mornah to Oct 21

The High Court in Accra has adjourned to October 21 to deliver a ruling on a motion filed by Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to disqualify him from contesting in the 2024 presidential election.

The EC has stated that it disqualified 11 candidates, including Mornah, due to errors in their nomination forms, which they failed to rectify.

Mornah, one of three individuals who have filed suits against the EC, alleges that the commission violated constitutional provisions by not allowing him the opportunity to correct the errors.

The EC disputes this claim, explaining that while they pointed out some errors, those deemed criminal in nature were not communicated to the aspirants.

In court on Wednesday, Mornah’s lawyers argued that the commission acted beyond its discretionary powers.

Harold Atuguba, Mornah’s lawyer, urged the commission to suspend all electoral activities related to the presidential election until the court reaches a decision.
