Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to weaken the party’s influence in key constituencies.
This accusation follows the disqualification of the NDC’s parliamentary candidate (PC) for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Thursday, Kwetey claimed that the EC’s actions are part of a broader strategy to undermine the NDC’s electoral prospects in crucial areas.
He expressed concerns that the disqualification of the Amenfi Central candidate is not an isolated incident but rather a deliberate effort to diminish the party’s strength in its strongholds.
“This blatant abuse of authority, this overt manipulation of the democratic process and this audacious attempt to deny people of Amenfi Central their rights to representation cannot and will not be tolerated.
“The NDC as a political party founded on the core values of justice equity and democracy will not sit idling by while the EC a state institution constitutionally mandated to safeguard our electoral process turns itself into a political tool for the ruling NPP government.”
“What we are witnessing at the moment is nothing less than a direct attack on the fundamental pillars of our democracy. An attack that seeks to erode the rights of voters to fully choose their representatives.
“We recognise this for what it is an unrestricted plot to weaken the NDC in key constituencies tip the electoral scale and sabotage the will of the people of Ghana,” he stated.
