The Public Utility Workers Union of TUC-Ghana has announced its decision to join the nationwide industrial action scheduled for Thursday, October 10.
In a letter to the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company on Tuesday, October 8, the union confirmed its participation in the strike, with all members – excluding those in Production and Maintenance Units – set to join the action.
This move is part of a broader effort by Organized Labour to pressure the government into addressing pressing issues, including the galamsey menace.
“At a meeting held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in the Conference Room of the Hall of Trades Union in Accra, the leadership of Organised Labour decided to embark on a nationwide strike action against issues Pertaining to Illegal Small-Scale Mining.
“This decision was reinforced by Organised Labour at its meeting held on October 07, 2024, at the Hall of Trades Union. In this regard, we hereby write to officially notify you that PUWU, and all its members, except Production and Maintenance Units shall join in this nationwide strike, starting from Thursday, 10th October, 2024 as per the attached statement.”
Organised Labour has confirmed a nationwide strike starting Thursday, October 10, 2024, in response to the government’s inaction on the galamsey menace.
This decision follows their prior notice of industrial action if their concerns remain unaddressed.
