The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong has announced plans by government to commence the Promoting Rural Opportunities, Sustainable Profits and Environmental Resilience (PROSPER) project in November this year.
This follows the approval of a 52 million US Dollar loan agreement between government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to among other things strengthen the climate resilience and environmental sustainability of smallholder farmers operating within the priority value chains in the Northern and Middle Ecological belts.
Speaking at the Country Strategy and Evaluation programme in Accra, Acheampong expressed optimism about the project’s contribution to tackling key challenges of the Agriculture Sector.
“I wish to use this platform to thank IFAD once again for signing the 52 million US Dollar PROSPER financing agreement in January this year.”
“I assure you that the project will be launched next month, as the first draw down is done, and the recruitment of staff is underway. We look forward to working together with IFAD in achieving rural development, and a world free from hunger,” he said.
