The former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to heed the calls from various groups and labour unions to end the destruction of forest reserves and water bodies.

“Heed the call of citizens, CSOs, professionals, academics, research institutions and trade unions to bring an end to the destruction of our forest, waterbodies and associated biodiversity.”

“The very existence and future of Ghana are very at stake and Mr President I know you care…Disobedience and destruction of nature cannot be endured for too long,” Prof Frmpong said at a grand durbar to mark the climax of the Asogli Yam Festival in Ho on Saturday.

He used the opportunity to also urge Ghanaian youth to rise to the task and hold leaders accountable for their challenges and called on the next government to prioritise job creation and the restoration of the environment.

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, tasked the next government to reverse all negative trends happening in the country to promote growth and development.

He also called for conditions to enable free and fair elections in the upcoming election.

To climax the celebration of this year’s Asogli Yam Festival, the grand durbar saw chiefs sitting in state and people of the Asogli State dressed in their colourful traditional attire, singing and dancing to hail their chiefs.

The occasion saw dignitaries from across the country and beyond gracing the event.
